Immigrate to Canada as An Investors

Canada’s Immigrant Investor Program (IIP) attracts experienced business people to bring significant economic benefits to Canada. In order to keep pace with the changing global economy and keep Canada’s program competitive, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) had changed the program’s requirements and stopped accepting any applications under Federal Investor Category in June 2009.

Effective December 1, 2010, CIC will once again accept applications under the new Federal Investor Program.

Under the new program criteria, investor applicants will need to have a personal net worth of $1.6 million, up from $800,000 under the old criteria, and make an investment of $800,000, up from the previous requirement of $400,000.

As an investor applicant you must meet the eligibilities below:

  • show that they have business experience
  • have a minimum net worth of C$1,600,000 that was obtained legally and
  • make a C$800,000 investment.

Your C$800,000 investment is managed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and will be returned completely, without interest, about five years and two months after payment.

Canada’s Program Compares to Other Countries

Canada’s old IIP criteria had not changed since 1999 and were the lowest when compared to other countries with similar programs (see the chart below).
